When to Let Go of Your Skincare Products

We’ve all been there—finding a skincare product that feels like a miracle for our skin, only to wonder how long we can keep using it. As someone who deals with dry and sensitive skin, I’ve realized the importance of being aware of product shelf life.

Most skincare items come with a PAO (Period After Opening) symbol, which looks like a small jar with a number inside. This indicates how many months you can safely use the product after opening it. For instance, a moisturizer might be good for six months to a year, while oils and balms can last a bit longer. However, it’s crucial to also pay attention to any changes in texture, smell, or color, as these can signal it’s time to say goodbye.

It can feel wasteful to toss out products, especially if they were expensive or have special memories attached to them. One tip that works for me is writing the opening date on the label, which helps me keep track and avoid using items that could irritate my skin. How do you manage your skincare collection?
