Understanding Sunscreen Pilling: Causes and Solutions

I’ve been tweaking my skincare routine lately, especially focusing on how I apply sunscreen. I’ve noticed that when I reapply, sometimes the product pills up on my skin, and I’m really curious about why that happens. I use a mix of serums and moisturizers, so I’m wondering if those might be influencing how the sunscreen performs.

From what I’ve learned, pilling can happen for a couple of reasons. One possibility is that the products underneath the sunscreen aren’t fully absorbed before I layer on the sunscreen. Additionally, the formulation of the sunscreen itself could be a factor—some formulas are thicker or have ingredients that don’t blend well with others, which can lead to that annoying pilling.

I’ve experimented with different application methods, like using my fingers versus a sponge, but I still encounter this issue from time to time. It seems that finding the right balance is essential. Has anyone else dealt with this? What tips or techniques have you found effective for reapplying sunscreen during the day? Any recommendations for products that work well without pilling?
