Tips for Recovering from Over-Exfoliation

Over-exfoliation can be a tricky situation when you’re trying to keep your skin healthy and hydrated. I know from experience how tempting it is to use scrubs and acids to achieve that radiant glow. However, too much exfoliation can disrupt our skin’s barrier, leading to irritation, redness, and dryness. What do you do to manage these effects?

When I notice I’ve gone overboard, I step back from my exfoliating products and focus on gentle, hydrating ingredients. I love using a soothing serum with hyaluronic acid, which draws moisture into the skin. Plus, I always apply a rich, nourishing moisturizer to support my skin barrier. If my skin feels particularly sensitive, I might add a calming balm for extra relief.

I also find that some lifestyle changes can make a difference. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water and eating a diet high in antioxidants really helps. It’s fascinating how much our internal hydration shows on the surface! I also try to limit exposure to harsh weather conditions that can worsen dehydration.

How do you manage the effects of over-exfoliation? What products or routines do you swear by? I’d love to hear your stories and tips!
