I’ve recently started using sunscreen daily and discovered a lot about how our skin can react to different products, including potential allergies to sunscreen. It’s surprising how many people may not connect their skin issues to the sunscreen they use. So, what should you be on the lookout for?
Common signs of a sunscreen allergy include redness, itching, and rashes in areas where the product was applied. If you have fair skin like mine, these reactions can be quite visible, often showing up as dry patches or hives. It can sometimes be difficult to tell if you’re experiencing an allergy or just irritation from the sun or other skincare products, so it’s important to monitor how your skin reacts after applying sunscreen.
If you think you might have a sunscreen allergy, consider performing a patch test first. Just apply a small amount of the sunscreen to a less visible area and check for any adverse reactions over the next 24 hours. Have any of you dealt with what you believed was a sunscreen allergy? What symptoms did you experience, and how did you manage it? I’d love to hear your experiences and any advice you might have!
