Mineral vs. Chemical Sunscreen: What Works for You?

As someone with oily, fair skin, I’m always on the hunt for a sunscreen that feels light while offering great protection. Lately, I’ve been exploring the differences between mineral and chemical sunscreens, and I’d love to share some findings and hear your experiences!

Mineral sunscreen works by sitting on the skin and physically reflecting UV rays, thanks to ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. I really enjoy how it feels—like a gentle, protective layer. It’s also a fantastic option for those with sensitive skin, which is a big plus. On the flip side, chemical sunscreen absorbs into the skin and uses active ingredients to filter UV rays. While it can feel lighter initially, I sometimes notice it leaves my skin feeling oily by midday.

I appreciate that many mineral sunscreens come in airy textures that make application enjoyable rather than a chore. Plus, they usually have fewer irritants, which is a definite advantage! However, I can’t deny the convenience of chemical sunscreens, especially those in spray form for quick touch-ups throughout the day.

What are your thoughts on mineral and chemical sunscreens? Do you have a favorite that you can’t live without? How do you feel about the texture and finish of each type on your skin?
