Fungal Acne vs Hormonal Acne: Key Differences Explained

As a skincare enthusiast, I find it intriguing to explore the differences between fungal acne and hormonal acne. Both can be quite challenging to manage, but understanding their distinct characteristics can guide us in selecting the most effective treatments. Fungal acne typically appears as small, itchy bumps caused by an overgrowth of yeast on the skin. In contrast, hormonal acne is usually larger, inflamed, and often coincides with our menstrual cycle or hormonal fluctuations.

For those of us with combination skin, it can sometimes be difficult to pinpoint which type we are experiencing, especially if both are present. I’ve been experimenting with different products during my weekly skincare routines. For example, I’ve noticed that salicylic acid tends to be effective for hormonal acne, while ingredients like ketoconazole have been great for tackling fungal breakouts.

I’d love to hear from you! Have you faced challenges in identifying between these two types of acne? What products or routines have you found beneficial for managing them? If you’ve tried treatments for both, what has worked best for you?
